Dull Skin? What Is It?
Dull Skin usually means tired, lifeless, lacklustre, dry skin which has lost its natural glow.
Skin has losts its brightness and may look grey in appearance.
Dehydrated skin can also look dull, as can dark circles and thread veins. Pigmentation, age spots and wrinkles caused by sun damage, causing the skin to lose its elasticity and fullness, can have this effect.
What Causes Dull Skin?
Skin may become dull as part of the natural ageing process as it loses moisture, collagen and elastin.
Other factors such as illness, exposure to the sun and certain lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol or poor diet can lead to tired-looking, dull skin.
Treatments For Dull SKin
Microneedling
Microneedling is a device that uses tiny needles (not injections) to cause microscopic punctures in the skin. This encourages the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect.
Skin appears brighter and younger looking.
The best results from Microneedling are seen after a course of treatment.
Chemical Peels
There are a number of Chemical Peels designed to brighten and refresh dull skin.
The treatment involves applying a non-toxic chemical to the surface of the skin to encourage cell turnover and exfoliation. As dead skin cells are removed, skin appears clearer with a healthy glow.
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a facial treatment that involves the regulated movement of an aesthetic-grade sterile blade across the skin. This results in the removal of the very top layer of skin and any “peach fuzz” – the short, fine, lightly pigmented hair on the face.
It leaves you with baby-smooth, hair-free, glowing skin that lasts up to four weeks.
Self Help To Brighten Your Skin
Although there isn’t really one single cause for dull skin, it can be reduced by adopting a daily skincare regime and introducing professional skin treatments.
The best face creams are those which contain ingredients aimed at brightening the complexion and improving radiance. Adding a serum and exfoliator to your routine is a good place to start. Look out for products which contain ingredients such as: Vitamin C, AHAs, Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Glycolic Acid.
